The Accela Citizen Application (ACA) is an online platform where contractors, citizens, businesses and visitors can create an account, apply for permits and receive real-time updates from the Development Services team. This is all part of the City's dedication to improving transparency and streamlining the permitting process.

Why is North Port making the switch to Accela?

As one of the fastest-growing cities in the country, the City of North Port is quickly adapting and growing to continue providing a high level of service and transparency to customers. In North Port, planning customers have never had access to an online portal where they could easily apply for permits and view the status of the applications. 

With the switch to Accela, customers now have the opportunity to create a free online account, submit and pay for permits through the portal and see the status of their application all in one place. 

 

 

Do I need an account to access Accela?

Yes. Anyone wanting to access the online platform and use its services must create an account.

 

How do I create an account?

How do I apply for a building permit?

Is there a cost to creating an Accela account?

No. It is free to create an Accela account, but you will pay your application fees for permits through the Accela portal.

 

What is the best device to access Accela from?

Accela is the most user-friendly on a desktop or laptop but can also be accessed from a smartphone or tablet.

 

What if I submitted an application that is still open before Accela launched?

Open applications that have been recorded will be migrated into Accela, and the applicant will receive an email with details regarding the PIN registration process to link that application to their new ACA account.

 

How will permits, applications and petitions in the process be handled?

Everything will be processed in the order it was received through Accela. Statuses will be available on ACA for the customer to stay updated.

How can I request a fire inspection?

Fire inspections can be requested through the online portal and will be scheduled in accordance with the inspector. The requestee will be notified via email through Accela.

 

 

 

NOTICE: Applications for new one-and-two-family homes along with additions and accessory structures, signs, and stand-alone underbrush or tree removal are required to obtain an approved Certificate of Zoning Compliance BEFORE submitting a building permit application. Certificate of Zoning Compliance applications can be found here and are to be submitted electronically to CZCapplications@NorthPortFL.gov

In accordance with CONP ULDC Sec. 46-42. – Specific prohibitions. (6) Construction and demolition: operating or permitting the operation of any tools or equipment used in construction, drilling, repair, alteration or demolition work between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. the following day on weekdays or 9:00 p.m. and 7:30 a.m. on weekends and holidays in or within 50 yards of any residential area or noise-sensitive zone, except for emergency work by public service utilities or by a variance approved by the city commission.
