Road and Drainage

What We Do

Roads, Waterways and Structures Section

  • Road maintenance, including pothole patching.
  • Traffic control devices (traffic signals, signs, and markings).
  • Right of way mowing and debris removal.
  • Water control structures and bridges.
  • Aquatic weed control in canals and ditches.
  • Mowing of canal and ditch banks within the right-of-way.

Drainage Section

  • Stormwater drainage systems (pipes, inlets, swales, ditches, and canals).
  • Planning, estimating and scheduling maintenance projects.
The City's stormwater system is designed so that it takes time for water to make its way from the street into swales, ditches and canals to allow for proper filtration of harmful pollutants. This water will recede, but it will take some time after a sustained heavy rainfall. Swales may hold water for up to 72 hours after a rain event.
