Canine Club Dog Park

A popular destination for residents with dogs, the Canine Club gives dogs and owners alike the opportunity to play leash free. The 1.5 acre fenced in park is split into large and small dog sections for the safety of your canine friend. The Canine club also has multiple shade structures, restrooms, waste bag stations, agility equipment, and canine cooling stations. The Canine Club Dog Park will be closed for a full day every Wednesday for improved park maintenance, reopening Thursday's at 7:30 a.m.

The Canine Club Guidelines for Use

• Pet owners are subject to the Sarasota County Animal Control Ordinance.
  Section 10-31 of the City of North Port Code adopts and enforces the Sarasota County Animal Control Ordinance within the City of North Port. 
• All dogs must be vaccinated and display current tags.
• The off-leash dog areas are for dogs and their handlers only.
• Handlers must be at least 18 years old.
• Visitors under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
• Handlers may not bring more than three (3) dogs at any one time.
• Handlers must have one leash in their possession for every dog they bring to the park.
• Dogs must be on a leash while entering and exiting the park, including the parking lot.
• No leash lead longer than six (6) feet.
• Any dog displaying aggressive behavior toward people or other dogs shall immediately be removed from the park by its handler.
• Dogs in heat, pregnant, or lactating are prohibited from the park.
• Puppies under four (4) months old are not permitted in the park.
• Handlers must fill any holes dug by their dog(s).
• Please use the appropriate area for your dog. Small dog area has a twenty (20) pound limit.
• No food allowed for both people and dog(s). glass drink containers are prohibited.
• Abandonment of dogs is prohibited and punishable by law.
• Owners and handlers are legally responsible for their dog(s) and should always keep close contact and within voice command.

• Handlers are responsible for removing and disposing of dog waste.
  Section 14-18 of the Sarasota County Code requires dog owners to immediately pick up after their pets and dispose of their waste in a lawful manner.

As a courtesy to our park patrons and to encourage proper disposal of dog waste, the Parks & Recreation Department provides pet waste bags and dispensers at dog friendly areas of City of North Port parks and at the Canine Club off-leash dog park. Per Resolution 2017-R-18(PDF, 116KB), playgrounds, courts, batting cages and sports fields are not designated as dog friendly areas.
