The City of North Port is one of the fastest growing communities in the nation. To accommodate the growth and maintain infrastructure, the Department of Public Works budgets annually for road resurfacing projects throughout the City.  Starting later this month, the Department’s vendor is anticipated to start work on several road rehabilitation projects that were prioritized for this fiscal year due to their heavy use. The project is expected to be completed in the following order:

  1. Ponce de Leon Boulevard
    • Over the I-75 overpass
  2. Eldron Avenue
    • 1.05 miles of subdivision roadways
  3. LaMarque Avenue
    • .33 miles of subdivision roadways
  4. South Salford Boulevard
    • 1.4 miles between Lothair Avenue and Barbary Lane
  5. Toledo Blade Boulevard Phase I
    • 3.6 miles between North Cranberry Boulevard and West Price Boulevard
  6. Toledo Blade Boulevard Phase II
    • 2.8 miles between West Price Boulevard and Bobcat Trail

The project will be completed in phases and the preparation for repaving is set to begin around Thanksgiving week. Work on Toledo Blade Boulevard is anticipated to start in December and will take several phases to complete. To mitigate traffic disruption, most of the construction work for the Toledo Blade portion of the project will take place overnight from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Please note, the stamped concrete turn lanes along Toledo Blade will require multiple stages of work due to their unique features and is an expected part of the process.

“Road surfaces have a natural lifespan,” said Director of Public Works Chuck Speake. “Resurfacing projects such as this help ensure the surface is safe for traffic and allows us to prepare for future growth. Our traffic plans have been engineered to support safe travel and mitigate congestion, but as with all work zones, please be patient, drive carefully and allow extra time for your daily commutes.”

Scheduled work dates are weather sensitive and subject to change. For the latest, visit NorthPortFL.gov/RoadRehab, call the Department of Public Works customer service at 941-240-8050 or follow the City’s social media channels.

How do I get my road paved?

The City develops its resurfacing list based on several data-driven factors. Age of the road, traffic volume and condition reports are key considerations. In a recent study by IMS, a full evaluation was conducted and found that 82% of the City’s roads in legacy North Port were in good or very good shape, a direct result of the work completed following the road bond approval by voters in November 2012.You can submit your road for evaluation via the North Report mobile app.
