The City of North Port is excited to announce the launch of "North Port University," an innovative citizen's academy that will give residents an up-close look at how their local government operates.

North Port University is a free, multi-week program designed to educate citizens about the city's various functions, services and operations. Through interactive sessions led by city staff and community leaders, participants will gain valuable insights into municipal operations, public safety, utilities, parks and recreation and more.

The inaugural session of North Port University kicks off on Aug. 8 and runs for 8 consecutive Thursday evenings starting at 6 p.m. Each session will cover different aspects of city government through presentations, facility tours, Q&A sessions and more. The sessions will conclude with a graduation ceremony on Oct. 3.

Participants must be residents of North Port and at least 18 years of age. Class size is limited to 25 students.

"We hope North Port University will inspire more citizens to get involved in their government," City Manager Jerome Fletcher said. "This program will not only increase communication between government officials and residents, but also inspire future North Port leaders."

Registration is open. For more details about North Port University and how to apply, please visit NorthPortFL.gov/University.
