The North Port Parks & Recreation Department is thrilled to introduce two new programs designed to foster community engagement, physical activity and social connections. Both programs are to be held at the George Mullen Activity Center and will begin on Monday, Aug.12, 2024, offering fun, inclusive recreational activities for children, teens and adults.

Midday Motion is perfect for children interested in playing recreational activities with their peers. Designed with homeschoolers in mind, participants will have the opportunity to enjoy pickleball, volleyball, basketball, and cornhole in a supportive and friendly environment. The program is held on Mondays starting Aug. 12, 2024, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the George Mullen Activity Center. It is open to children in grades K-8. The cost is $3 for residents and $4 for non-residents. Please note that all participants require parental/guardian supervision.

We are also excited to introduce T-Rec Active, a morning session of therapeutic recreation activities designed specifically for teens and adults with special needs. This program provides a wonderful opportunity to make new friends, reconnect with others and participate in a variety of activities including basketball, pickleball, volleyball, and cornhole. The program is held on Mondays starting Aug. 12, 2024, from 10 a.m. to noon at the George Mullen Activity Center, and is open to all ages. The cost is $3 for residents and $4 for non-residents. Please note that all participants require caregiver supervision.

In addition, the North Port Parks & Recreation Department is pleased to announce our upcoming event dates for T-Rec Social Club, provided in collaboration with T-REC Coalition of Sarasota County. The coalition is dedicated to offering organized therapeutic recreational programs designed for individuals with special needs as well as offering an inclusive approach to all recreation opportunities in Sarasota County.  This program is free to attend and no registration is required. Drop-ins are welcome to join us on Sept. 6, Oct. 4 and Nov. 8 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the George Mullen Activity Center.
