Hurricane Milton updates

The City of North Port is actively monitoring Hurricane Milton and urging residents to prepare themselves and their families for potential impacts.

Evacuations

Sarasota County will be calling for evacuations in Level A and potentially Levels A and B. This includes those in manufactured home communities or mobile or boat homes.

North Port residents who live in low-lying areas or who have experienced flooding of their homes in the past are urged to implement their preparedness plans. if you plan to leave the area, do so now. This is expected to be one of the largest evacuations along our state's west coast.

Visit scgov.net to view a list of Sarasota County evacuation centers or find your evacuation level.

All residents should take this time to prepare their properties and their disaster kits, including enough water, non-perishable food and medicine for a minimum of seven days for each member of their family.

Street ponding

Public Works staff are doing all they can to lower water levels throughout our stormwater system in preparation. However, because the ground is already saturated from our near record rainfall this year, there will still be ponding in the streets due to additional excessive rainfall. Never drive through standing water- turn around, don't drown.

To report a specific drainage concern, visit NorthPortFL.gov/NorthReport.

Sandbags

A self-serve sandbag station is open behind the George Mullen Activity Center at 1602 Kramer Way. Sand and bags will be available while supplies last. Residents should bring their own shovels.

Closures

Warm Mineral Springs Park will be closed Monday, Oct. 7, and until further notice.

The George Mullen Activity Center and the Morgan Family Community Center will also be closed.

For the latest status updates on Parks & Recreation facilities, visit NorthPortFL.gov/ParksAndRecreation.

Trash & recycling

There are no changes to Solid Waste pickup schedules for City of North Port customers at this time.

Hurricane Debris Collection

CurbsideDebrisFlyer-FinalEnglish.png

Separate debris into six categories:

  • Household hazardous waste
  • Electronics
  • Appliances
  • Construction & demolition debris
  • Vegetative debris
  • Everyday household trash

Helpful hints for hurricane debris collection:

  • Do not stack or lean debris near trees, poles, fire hydrants, meters, or other structures, as this can make removal difficult.
  • If there is no sidewalk, ditch, or utility line in front of your house, place debris at the edge of your property before the curb.
  • Debris should be placed curbside without blocking the roadway or storm drains.
  • Any debris placed from the sidewalk toward your property will not be picked up (no pickup zone).
  • Regular household trash and bagged debris will not be picked up with disaster debris. Follow your regular garbage removal schedule for those items.

Contact the Department of Public Works for more information at NorthPortFL.gov/SolidWaste or 941-240-8050.
